I hadn’t really thought about the downsides of using the airtags in helping locate a lost pet until recently. I wish I could afford live tracking devices for all of our animals. We only have one dog, and he’s geriatric and mostly blind but if a door is left ajar, he will walk out and go about exploring, which is even more dangerous for him. There were a couple of downfalls: (1) the description stated, it came with a one-year free subscription but it did not; (2) the tracker is slightly large, especially for small breed dogs. Yes, this tracker does require a subscription but believe me when I say it’s worth every penny, and you will thank me later.My cat was an indoor/outdoor cat; he always stayed close to the house, and always came when called until one night last week. He usually didn’t go out in the evening time but this night he had; other cats were outside so I knew he just wanted to play more than likely. I called him to come in after a couple of hours and he didn’t come but I wasn’t worried. It was a beautiful night and most of the cats wanted to stay outside. I fell asleep but woke up after a few hours and came out to call him again, it was now the middle of the night. He didn’t come. I poured food in their bowls outside, which brought all the cats. He wasn’t one of them. He did this once before, but popped out from under the house when the sun came up. It was just after 4am, so I just figured I was up for the day. I went inside to make a cup of coffee, let the ducks out of their house at dawn. By 10am, still no Baby Boy (that was his name), now I was really worried. I opened my Find-My-Phone app, pulled up his tag and the last location recorded was from a week prior. I clicked on the sound button, and walked around the house clicking it and didn’t hear the beep. Finally, I decided to look up how close I had to be to the airtag for it to pick up his location, and it said 33 feet. I had my husband empty our ducks’ large pool so I could go into the wooded area behind our house and continued pressing and walking and pressing till dusk. It’s been a week, and he still hasn’t come home, which means he won’t be. If I knew then what I know now, I would’ve had the live tracker on him. We have a little sanctuary, all cats have been spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccines, and rabies, as well as receiving care for illness or injury. Out of all of our cats, three of them are mine. They were 3 generations (grandma, mom, and son); they slept with me every night, and were very spoiled. Heck, this particular cat who vanished had surgery 2.5 weeks prior to this happening. Offers peace of mind
This tracker is very easy to set up in almost no time. It’s nice that I can know the location of my girl at all times because the tracker is extremely accurate. If she strays outside her “area” with the geofencing I get an immediate notification giving me a lot of peace of mind. Due to the size of the tag if you have a small dog this might not be for you. It is lightweight and my pitsky acts like she doesn’t even know it’s there which is a big plus.
