Benji is Torture Testing This Right Now
I help an elderly neighbor walk her 20 pound mutt, Benji, aka Bennie.Bennie doesn’t like cats, squirrels, bikes and, on occasion, other dogs much bigger than he.And Bennie pulls like a train when he wants to get moving or chasing. That might explain why I walk him – he nearly broke his owner’s wrist pulling hard one time.This won’t be my first retractable leash for Bennie. That last one claimed to be indestructible but the dog pulled so hard the plastic casing cracked and the internal ratcheting mechanism broke.I’ve also discovered that 6 foot leashes just won’t make it and he’s proven several times that tangle-proof varieties are just a dream.In fact, his leash prior to this one was the same nylon rope used to separate the shallow and deep ends in pools – and he somehow managed to get that one tangled, too.But I’m willing to be open minded when it comes to testing this one. The leash itself is made of flat, braided nylon mated to a plastic handle with an internal locking mechanism (it locks and unlocks via a button on the handle). To keep it from tangling, the entry point for the leash into the handle is U shaped (much like a smiley face) so it doesn’t bunch up or double up on itself.The leash clasp is metal, which is good; however, it can also be bad. If you have the dog off the leash and go to retract the line, make sure you don’t create a whip effect as it comes back into the handle. I’ve already hit my hand that way. Feather it lightly back into the housing.I’m rating this one highly right now and may have to change it once Bennie gets through with his torture testing.Pricing seems to be in the middle of the pack for this design. Some are lower by quite a margin while others are much higher priced.

The Leash is NOT Chew Proof
One of the Ask Rufus questions was if the leash was Chew Proof. The answer is NO, it is NOT. I used this leash for the first time today. In turning my back on my dog for just a couple of minutes or so, she had chewed through the nylon leash. I am so disappointed! If you do decide to purchase this leash, please keep this in mind.

Easy to use and very visible
I typically use a super strong and thick nylon leash for my dog when we’re out, but I use the retractable for things like potty walks.I like this leash well enough, and won’t be looking to replace it right away, but when it is time to get a new one, I think I’ll look for something where the leash is a bit wider.I have a very large dog; he’s 3 months old and almost 40 pounds. This leash’s width is about half an inch, and he loves to try and chew on it. With the width, I’m afraid that a few good chomps (even when I actively try to prevent that), it’ll break free.For dogs that don’t try to chew on their leash or aren’t super pullers, I think this would be pretty awesome

Reflective Dog Leash
I needed a new dog leash and the reflective stitching feature caught my eye, so I ordered this Jopoy Retractable Dog Leash 16 FT for Dogs up to 110 lbs. The leash arrived in a very nice strong box that kept it protected on its journey to me.The harness (collar) clip is bigger than my old leash (picture included). I like this because my puppy’s harness has two metal rings (one from each side) that need to be clipped to the leash. The bigger clip goes around both rings much easier than my old one. Winter requires us to walk when it is darker outside, so I was so glad to find that the nylon string’s stitching was reflective when light hits it. I tried it out in a dark room and it is definitely reflective (picture included). The leash is very sturdy and fits nicely in my hand. The nylon string seems very strong. I can stop my puppy’s pull by just pressing on the brake, which is easy to do with the hand holding the leash. If I only want her to have like 2 feet of string I can lock the brake not allowing retraction or pull either way. This leash is great and I really like the reflective stitching – I do recommend it.

M y wife and I use this retractable leash to walk our energetic beagle. It is exactly as the multiple pictures show for the item on Amazon. The reflectiveness of the leash material is a nice feature. The ability to allow the nose to the ground beagle to reel himself out to 16 feet and then catch up to him as he stops to sniff and check p-mail while the leash retracts back into the mechanism is great. And, when the leash needs to be locked at whatever length is desired, a simple push forward on the button locks the leash. We are very pleased.
